UNESCO Director-General said that the types of cultural heritage mentioned in the list need serious and urgent protection. Azerbaijan’s carpet weaving art is also in the UNESCO’s Cultural Heritage List. UNESCO considers that the features of carpet weaving in Azerbaijan are passed from generation to generation and that’s why it is needed to protect it reliably.
Bokova said that it is the precious possession of communities, groups and individuals – only they can safeguard it and pass it on to generations to come,” she said, further noting that UNESCO and Member States should support all cultural preservation efforts “in every way we can”.
Turkey’s Kırkpınar oil wrestling festival, Semah, Alevi-Bektaşi ritual and Iran’s ritual dramatic art of Ta‘zīye are also included to UNESCO “List of Intangible Cultural Heritage”.
