Foreign Relations commissar of European Union Benita Ferrero – Valdner made a statement in connection with the presidential elections. Ms. Benita Ferrero-Valdner appreciated the developments noted by OSCE during the elections, the amendments made to the Election Code, better conditions created for the oppositional candidates to participate in the elections. “I hope that Azerbaijan government will extend its efforts toward fulfilling international commitments, freedom of press, conducting free debates and also development of political pluralism”. In the statement it is also noted that European Union will continue to support the efforts of Azerbaijan in development of democratic institutions in the country and will widen the mutual cooperation within European Neighborhood Policy.
