Parliament adopts law facilitating foreigners’ traveling to Azerbaijan

Giving information about the draft law chairman of the parliament’s legal policy and statehood Ali Huseynli said the draft proposals were submitted to the parliament by Azerbaijani President. Chairman of the committee said amendments and annexes offered to the legislation will facilitate visa issuance for foreigners through travel agencies. This will also enable application of electronic visa.

According to the annexes, travel agencies can apply through internet for getting visas for tourists. Azerbaijan’s diplomatic offices in the countries or Azerbaijan’s diplomatic offices in the third countries are to be applied for this.

Draft amendments also list the documents necessary for online visa issue. Online applications will be reviewed within at least 15 days after its submission. The list of documents required for visa, form of application and sum of state duty will be published on the websites of the Azerbaijani diplomatic mission.

The lawmakers expressed their opinions about the issue. Some of them said that “some of the tourists have no good will in their travels” and easy obtain a visa will create problems for the security organizations.

MP Ganira Pashayeva said the parliament needed to adopt a law on the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, which would prevent travels to the occupied territories of Azerbaijan organized by Armenia. The lawmaker sited the experience of Georgia as an example. She said some international organizations supported the policy of Armenia today. The parliamentarian considers that according to this law the people traveling to the occupied territories of Azerbaijan should be declared as persona non grata and not be allowed to arrive in Azerbaijan.

The draft law was put to vote and adopted.
