PACE will send a mission to observe the upcoming parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan, the assembly’s President Anne Brasseur said on Monday during a briefing on the first day of the summer session.

“We will send an observation mission to Azerbaijan. However, we want all members of the observer mission to enter the country, and the Azerbaijani side was informed in this regard. Head of the French delegation Rene Roquet couldn’t attend meetings of the PACE Standing Committee and Bureau held in Baku in 2014. We will express our final position depending on the answers of the Azerbaijani side in the next meeting in Paris on August 30,” she added.

Head of the French delegation Rene Roquet was included in the list of “persona non grata” as he visited Azerbaijan’s territories occupied by Armenia without the permission of Baku. Therefore, the Azerbaijani Embassy in France refused to grant him a visa.
