Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov spoke at the trilateral meeting of the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Turkmenistan, held in Antalya.

“Azerbaijan strongly condemns terrorist attacks in Turkey and expresses its support for its struggle against terrorism. It is important to continue cooperation in the field of security in order to ensure the dynamic development of the region, strengthen the independence of our countries, counter dangerous challenges, accompanied by terrorism, extremism and aggressive separatism. One of the priorities of the foreign policy for Azerbaijan is regional security, fight against terrorism and energy security, “- said the Minister.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister stressed that there is a need to respect the sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of internationally recognized borders of states, as well as the rejection of the policy of aggression in order to maintain peace and stability in the region. “Alongside, there are obstacles to peace and development in the region. Failure in the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict is the greatest threat to peace, stability in the region and regional cooperation,” Mammadyarov said.

In his speech, the Minister noted that Azerbaijan has an important geo-strategic location on the regional, global energy and transport corridors. “Starting now successfully implemented the BTC project, the republic has initiated a number of important projects in the region. Azerbaijan connects the most important regions of Eurasia via implementation of the projects of the Southern Gas Corridor, the main lines of which are the TANAP and TAP, the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project and new Baku International Trade Port. The importance of the Southern Gas Corridor is that it will provide Europe significant reserves of natural gas from alternative sources on a continuous basis, “said Mammadyarov.

According to the minister, the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway and new Baku International Trade Port will be the main segments of the East-West corridor and will contribute to the development of the countries involved in the project. Mammadyarov noted that it is important to strengthen cooperation with the non-oil sector, in particular in areas such as information and communication technologies, renewable energy, average and small business.

“The trilateral cooperation in the humanitarian sphere between the countries is also a subject of discussion. Common values ​​and interests make cooperation in this field inevitable “- said the head of the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan.

At the end Mammadyarov proposed to hold the next trilateral meeting of foreign ministers of the three countries in Azerbaijan.
