Azerbaijan’s Interior ministry and republican Prosecutor’s office made joint statement on today’s action of the Public Chamber, press service of the Interior Ministry told APA. The information reads that some organizations and parties of the Public Chamber addressed Baku City executive Power in connection with the holding of rally in front of Narimanov cinema on April 2. Accrodign to I part of 7th item of the law on freedom of assembly, it was decided to change the venue of the rally from standpoint of protection of public interest, prevention of violation of public tranquility, prevention of unrests and crimes, protection of rights and freedom of other persons. In return, stadium in Bibiheybat settlement of Sebayil district was offered for this purpose. Applicants were informed on it officially, as well as APP and Musavat party leaders – Isa Gambar and Ali Karimli were officially warned by Baku City Main Police Office and Prosecutor’s Office on that they would bear responsibility in case of violation of public tranquility.

Despite that, on April 2, beginning from 14:00 oclock a group of 350 people from various directions attempted to enter to the “Fountain Square”. The information noted that thgough police have repeatedly warned to stop the actions aimed at disturbing public order representatives of the radical opposition have not fulfilled this requirement and have committed acts aimed at disturbing public order.

As a result of illegal actions, normally activity shattered in a series of intuitions, office and organizations, trade and catering establishments located at Fountain Square and closer areas. The actions also affected people’s rest, activity of city traffic.

It is notified that as a result of disrespectful aggressive actions in public damaged individual and juridical persons, with the inclusion of about 25 car belonging police. Were broke glasses of 17 shops and a bank enterprise, one bankomat damaged. Although police repeatedly warned them to stop illegal rally, they were go on their actions and as a result of their violence 13 police were damaged.

Thanks to the decisive actions of law enforcement officials managed to prevent the illegal actions, detained 5 active troublemakers, including the organizers. Another 70 persons were brought to administrative responsibility.

On the fact Baku Prosecutor’s Office opened a criminal case under article 233 (organization and active participation in actions violating public order) and Article 315 of the Criminal Code (Resistance and the use of force against a government representative).
