As a result of measures taken by the National Security Ministry, around 387.3 kg of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances were seized in 2012, the report of the Cabinet of Ministers as of 2012, submitted to the Parliament, said today.
As a result of measures implemented by the ministry staff, the activity of transnational organized criminal groups and individuals engaged in drug trafficking was prevented. In general, around 387.3 kilograms of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, including 17.286 kilograms of heroin, 307.036 kilograms of hashish and 62.342 kilograms of opium were seized.
Around 29 criminal cases were filed and 75 Azerbaijani citizens, eight Iranian citizens and five Russian citizens were involved in the investigation.
Two criminal groups and five individuals were neutralized during a joint operation with the Russian side.
Around 234.5 kilograms of drugs were seized.
