The Azerbaijani president’s aide for public and political affairs, Ali Hasanov, commented on May 15 on the issue of arrests of several local businessmen.

He said the businessmen are being charged for particular actions.

“Investigations and judicial proceedings will show whether those people were conducting their businesses within the framework of Azerbaijan’s existing laws, or not,” he said.

Hasanov went on to add that Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev has once again underscored that the government supports those doing business in the country.

A number of businessmen were arrested this week in Azerbaijan. They are being charged for failure to pay bank loans.
