Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko is expected to visit Baku, Ukrainian ambassador to Azerbaijan, Alexander Mishchenko told reporters May 8.
He didn’t specify the date of the visit, but said Ukraine wants to get positive results from the visit, and the preparatory work is in progress.
He added that Ukraine also continues working on giving impetus to the development of the GUAM (Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Moldova) Organization for Democracy and Economic Development.
“All GUAM countries have a common problem – occupation of territories,” said the ambassador, adding that a new concept should be chosen to solve this problem.
“We are waiting for the new GUAM leader, he said. “We know that Azerbaijan aspires to this position and we support this.”
The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Ukraine stood at $82.6 million as of the Q1 of 2015, which is 27.9 percent less than in the same period of 2014, according to the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan. This is while $79.6 million accounted for the import of Ukrainian products to Azerbaijan in Jan.-May 2015.
