U.S. appreciates Azerbaijan’s commitments to the post-war development of Afghanistan, the U.S. ambassador to Azerbaijan Richard Morningstar told the media outlets on April 23.
“We appreciate Azerbaijan’s every step and all the assistance rendered to Afghanistan,” he said. “As an example of such assistance – Azerbaijani servicemen serving in this country.”
He also stressed Azerbaijan’s big transit role in terms of transportation of food and other goods.
“I believe that the international cooperation will continue after the withdrawal of the mission’s troops from Afghanistan,” Morningstar said.
Azerbaijani Armed Forces’ peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan began on November 20, 2002.
Currently, some 94 servicemen, two military doctors and two “engineer-operator” officers of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces take part in the peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan.
