Chairman of the Azerbaijani State Committee for Religious Associations says Azerbaijan provides freedom of religion for all.
“Azerbaijani government has impartial attitude to religious sects and the country does not discriminate against any religion,” the chairman Hidayat Orujov of State Committee for Religious Associations said at a meeting with the Indian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Debnat Show.
As many as 102 religious communities were registered in Azerbaijan in 2008. Currently, there are 553 religious communities in the country. Some 101 of the registered community was Islamic and one non-Islamic, that is Kubar Jewish community in Sumgayit.
Orujov described relations between state and religion and added that state makes all efforts to provide freedom of religion and religious stability in the country. “All religions are the same for Azerbaijani government. Each citizen is ensured freedom of religion. This is state policy,” Orujov said.
