A group of Azerbaijani parliamentarians signed the appeal on lifting the restriction imposed on the term of appointment, the parliament told APA. The parliamentarians offered to make amendments to the law “On the activity of Human Rights Commissioner” and the draft law “On Public Prosecutor’s Office”. The amendments to the draft laws will be discussed at the joint meeting of the parliament’s Committee on legal policy and statehood and the Committee of human rights on May 20.
Chairwoman of the Committee of human rights, Rabiyyat Aslanova confirmed the news to APA. She said the parliament had been submitted the issue on theamendments and annexes to the law “On the activity of Human Rights Commissioner”. According to the proposed amendments, the restriction imposed on the election of the Human Rights Commissioner is lifted. “According to the existing law, the Human Rights Commissioner is elected once for a 7-year term. According to the proposed amendment, the restriction imposed on the election of the Human Rights Commissioner once is substituted for twice,” – she said.
