Novruz Mammadov: EU should take steps not to lose trust of partners

The European Union (EU) should take such steps so that confidence of partners in its reliability and sincerity would not weaken, Deputy Head of Azerbaijan’s Presidential Administration, the Chief of the Administration’s Foreign Relations Department Novruz Mammadov tweeted April 21.

He went on to add that proposals on Nabucco put forward during 7-8 years and negotiations conducted do not allow to confirm this.

“Now, Nabucco is completely forgotten,” Novruz Mammadov said. “I wonder whether Europe attaches importance to such issues.”

Nabucco West project was the rival of the Trans-Adriatic pipeline (TAP) project in competing for the transportation of Azerbaijani gas to European markets.

Although the decision of the consortium for development of the Shah Deniz field was not in favor of this project, its planned route still remains relevant.

The European Union is still interested in the project for construction of a gas pipeline to Central and Eastern Europe.

The supply route to Southeastern Europe and Austria has been included in the list of projects of common interest (PCI) of the European Commission.

The concept of the Nabucco West project envisaged the construction of 1,300-kilometer pipeline (412 kilometers running through Bulgaria, 469 kilometers – Romania, 384 kilometers – Hungary, 47 kilometers – Austria) from Turkish-Bulgarian border to Austria’s Baumgarten.
