Netherlands attaches great importance to cooperation with Azerbaijan

The Netherlands attaches great importance to cooperation with Azerbaijan, Dutch Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans said on Feb.4 at a joint press conference with his Azerbaijani counterpart in Baku.

“The current visit to Baku is very important for the Netherlands and there are many areas where the countries can effectively cooperate,” the minister said.

Azerbaijan’s relations with the EU are also important for the Netherlands, as they open up a new era in our bilateral relations as well, according to Timmermans.

Additionally, Azerbaijan has been invited to The Hague to participate at the Nuclear Security Summit and the country has already agreed to attend, according to Timmermans.

“Azerbaijan can make a contribution to nuclear security in the world,” the Dutch foreign minister said.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov in turn said the two countries have good relations.

“Cooperation in the energy sphere became one of the crucial points during bilateral negotiations between the two countries,” Azerbaijani foreign minister said.

Countering nuclear terrorism and smuggling nuclear materials will be the key topic of the third Nuclear Security Summit that will be held on March 24-25, 2014, at The Hague.
