Azerbaijani FM to visit France

“I plan to visit France following the Kazan meeting of Presidents Ilham Aliyev, Dmitry Medvedev and Serzh Sargsyan, and hold discussions with the French foreign minister,” Mammadyarov said in an interview with Voice of America (VOA) radio station.

The Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan, Russia and Armenia, Elmar Mammadyarov, Sergei Lavrov and Edward Nalbandian will meet in Moscow on June 11 to discuss the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan will meet in Kazan in late June.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCEMinsk Group – Russia, France, and the U.S. – are currently holding the peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council’s four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
